Supermodel Elle Macpherson - Spills Her Travel & Wellness Secrets

Adeline Duff, a journalist for Travel + Leaisure Magazine, recently had an interview with Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson—aka “The Body”— about her top travel and wellness tips. Macpherson has been traveling the world since she started modeling in 1982. Since then, she’s launched a line of lingerie and skincare products, acted in a variety of movies, and hosted TV shows such as Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model. After many years of living in the U.K., the model-turned-mogul made the move to Miami permanently and also frequently finds herself traveling to New York City for work—so, Duff fills us in on Elle Macpherson's  best travel tips and in-flight essentials that you should take note of for your next jet-set...

As a seasoned traveler, what’s the first thing you do when you board a flight?

“The first thing I do when I board a flight is double dose my Alkalising Greens (pre and post-flight) and drink three liters of water—two tricks Dr. Simone Laubscher taught me for long haul flights. So if I’m coming from London, as soon as I get on the plane, I shake my greens up with ice-cold water, or coconut water. This helps me avoid jet lag because my body has the nutrients it needs, and it also ensures I have that extra boost of hydration.”

What are some of your travel essentials?

“I love my Elsa Shaperelli flight bag. It’s perfect as a cabin bag—chic and fun! I have these great little eye masks I bought in Japan, which are basically pieces of fabric soaked in nutrients and moisturizer. I use SleepWelle Calming Mist for my pillow, which has such a beautiful, fresh scent. It uses organic essential oils, like lavender, to help me get to sleep—that will be arriving this month on welleco.com. And I always take my iPad full of books and movies.”

What’s the first thing you do when you check-in to your hotel?

“I get changed, and try to go for a walk outside to explore, take pictures, and observe. It’s so important for the soul, and also helps ground me wherever I am.”

How do you stay fit on the go?

“I like to go for a run around Central Park. It’s so beautiful any time of year. I have a much simpler and gentler routine now. I prefer not to go to the gym; instead, I make sure I find at least 45 minutes in my day, usually for a sport outdoors, which is easy in Miami. But when I’m traveling, it’s usually a run or a swim. I've found I'm more likely to stay with it if it’s something I love that fits into my life.”
