Luxury of freedom

Christmas time in the fairytale city of Ljubljana!

If you find yourself in Slovenia at the beginning of December, write down this information: 1st December at 17:15h in Preseren square.
Why? Because you will be part of one of the most important traditions of the Slovenian capital, in the recent years: the switching-on of Christmas lights.

This event is celebrated almost like the arrival of Santa Claus; after a brief festive ceremony and a speech by the mayor of Ljubljana all the festive lights of the city are switching-on  simultaneously as if by magic. Now do you understand now why Ljubljana is also known as the city of fairytales?!

All this takes place at the Preseren monument in the central square of the city, one of the few cities in the world with its central square called and adorned with a statue of a poet.

This event is just the beginning of a wide range of Christmas activities that characterize the city until the New Year's Eve: Christmas market, free events that take place in the festively decorated historic centre and one of the most imaginative Christmas lights screens in Europe. Can you believe it?

December thus becomes a magical month with the festive fair of Ljubljana and its streets with food and drink stands, and an extensive program of free music concerts and other events for adults and children.

So now you know, if first of December you are in Ljubljana, let yourself be carried away by magic and enjoy this spectacle of light that is worth enjoying. Or... are you going to let others tell you?
