Luxury of freedom

Ljubljana, the capital with the green soul

What about a sip of wine in Austria?

Due to the geographical position of Salzburg, the weather is too rough to allow wine culture. For the very same reason and also for the relations maintained with Bavaria, South of Germany, beer is the main beverage in the city and surroundings.

However, the Austrian history has registers of authorities that kept their private vineyards in warmer places in Austria. So, if kings, Prince-Archbishop and other authorities needed to travel to have some wine or the wine needed to be brought to them, why not leaving Salzburg – but just for a sip, Huh?

The wine growing region is located in the west part and we could say that Austria is definitely the country of white wine, once 35 main varieties of grape, 22 are white. In total there are 19 regions producing wine.

Another type of wine that is famous is the sweet wine, being some of the most famous Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Ausbruch, Trockenbeerenauslese, Eiswein (ice wine) and Strohwein.
