Hornbach to open online store in Romania

Do-It-Yourself retailer Hornbach, which owns six stores in Romania, plans to launch its online store in the country in the first half of the next year.

The company hasn’t mentioned the investment value.

However, Hornbach CEO Albrecht Hornbach said that the retailer has allocated about EUR 50 million per year to online investments at a group level. It plans to increase the amount to EUR 60 million this year.

Hornbach will continue to expand on the local market, it announced. The company is currently looking for plots in large cities such as Constanta, Iasi and Cluj-Napoca.

The retailer has invested EUR 145 million in the local market so far, where it has been active for ten years. Hornbach Romania posted a turnover of EUR 141 million last year, up 16.3% over 2015.

Worldwide, it runs 156 stores selling construction and gardening materials.
