Bucharest, the EU capital with second lowest electricity price

Bucharest is the EU capital with the lowest electricity price for household consumers, except for Sofia. In April, the price of a KWh was 11.1 Euro cents in Bucharest whereas the price of a KWh reached 10.7 Euro cents in Sofia, according to a report of the European Commission cited by local Profit.ro.

Denmark’s capital had the highest electricity price for household consumers in the EU in April, namely 31.3 Euro cents per KWh. Berlin ranked second, with 30.9 Euro cents per KWh, almost triple the price paid in Bucharest by household consumers.

Romania’s capital ranked third for the biggest price reduction in electricity among European capitals. Between April 2016 and April this year, the price for a KWh dropped by more than one Euro cent in Bucharest. In December last year, Romania’s authority for energy regulation (ANRE) decided to reduce the specific tariffs for the power distribution service for 2017 by 3.80%.
